World Youth Day: Uniting Catholics Around the Globe

For 20 years, Catholic youth from around the world have gathered to celebrate World Youth Day with each other and with the Holy Father. Celebrated with an international gathering every two to three years, World Youth Day is celebrated locally on Palm Sunday during the off-years.

"And now, as the living presence of the Risen Christ in our midst nourishes our faith and hope, I am pleased to announce that the next World Youth Day will take place in Sydney, Australia, in 2008. "There is an urgent need for the emergence of a new generation of apostles anchored firmly in the word of Christ, capable of responding to the challenges of our times and prepared to spread the Gospel far and wide.
